Dear All,
My name is Andrew and I am Roderic (Barbara's uncle) and Sheila Chan's son. Barbara was my godmother, and although we only met briefly shortly after I was born, we have been together with her mother as a family ever since. The loss of Barbara still greatly pains us to this day so please excuse us on our limited public engagement. Her mother, who I call my grandmother, is now 90 and has asked me to say a few things on her behalf.
We visit her grave in Cambridge from time to time and are always deeply touched by the flowers and gifts that you, her fans, leave for her. Her mother is still living in Cambridge but is now unfit to make the visit. Every time we go, we always show her photos of what we find and your kindness fills her heart with comfort and pride.
We would like to thank the anonymous person/people that had the headstone polished a few years ago. Marble is a very difficult stone to maintain and we are truly grateful of the kind gesture. We always joke that my dad chose the wrong stone!
As some of you may know, Barbara's photo went missing a few years ago. Thankfully, gran still had the original photo so we managed to order a replacement with the help of my family in Hong Kong. I've used some very strong glue so hopefully we won't have a repetition of the incident.
We are in the process of tiding up the planting area in front of the headstone, so please be careful of the mud. We would also greatly appreciate that if you see any wilted flowers then please place them in the large bins by the end of the path or water tank. This will prevent attracting slugs and snails (also please don't leave fruit or other perishable food). Please also refrain from leaving valuable items as these will be vulnerable to theft.
That's it from us now and thank you for reading. If you have any comments or questions, I'll try my best to answer them or pass them onto gran. I could even ask her to share some stories of when Barbara was young. Also, we are currently considering putting on a show of Barbara's artwork and my dad's paintings of her. We're not too sure how we're going to do this, but it'll probably take place in Cambridge in the near future.
Best wishes,
Andrew and family. |
